Montreal Gazette mocks Tamil refugee boy who sent heartfelt letter to dad

Last week, Canadian authorities greeted a Thai cargo ship carrying nearly 500 Tamil refugees. They set sail from Sri Lanka three months ago, hoping to find safe harbor in our part of the world. The asylum-seekers have been sent to three different facilities while their case is reviewed. Pretty standard stuff.
In today’s edition, the Montreal Gazette ran portions of a letter written by one Tamil boy to his father, who is being detained in a different facility. The letter says, in part, “Father, I’m safe… Do not worry about me… Don’t cry… Please eat well.” And so forth.
Besides describing it as “heartfelt,” what else did the Gazette have to say about the kid’s letter?
The boy recently wrote a letter to his father and gave it to Luxmi Vasan, a Toronto lawyer who is helping the Tamil migrants, to deliver. Vasan shared the letter late Thursday night with Postmedia News. Though it is riddled with spelling mistakes, it is written neatly in blue ink on lined paper.
Man, that’s cold.
